How many to train and at what rate?

How many and for how much? That's the question I'm facing right now as I prep Viglo for it's first big public push. I need to hire the Guides who will take the calls and speak Spanish with the users. But how many do I hire, and at what price?

I used a language exchange website that allows you to browse people's profiles and connect with someone who speaks the language you want to practice. I wrote a message to at least 30 people asking if they'd be interested in working for Viglo, but I got zero responses. With no responses I can't say exactly why nobody was interested in the job, but I can assume it's likely the low pay. I'm going to offer higher pay the next time around when I send more messages. The other possibility is that the people think I'm a scam, but there's really nothing I can do about that at the moment (actually, while writing that, I guess I could provide my LinkedIn profile. I never use it, but it is updated. Maybe that'll give me some legitimacy in the eyes of the people reading my messages).

The other thing I am unsure of is how many Guides should I hire? Obviously you don't want to hire too few and have a large demand of customers that you cannot tend to. At the same time, I don't want to train the Guides with the expectation that they will earn money, and then disappoint them when they are not able to earn anything for a lack of customers. After weighing the trade offs, I am going to hire 5 Guides, which seems too much at first, but I am more concerned with angering potential customers at the moment. I'm also going to pay significantly higher wages than I offered in the messages I sent out in the language exchange website as a way to permit the Guides to earn a bit more, even if there aren't too many hours being offered.
