You are reading the words of a former research scuba diver, hitchhiker, computer programmer (though I only got that job because I passed out in the middle of an airport floor at the right time), and volunteer at a shelter for human tracking victims (though it turned out to be a fraudulent organization, and I worked to overthrow the owner). I also spent a bunch of my time in the past living in my car (until one time a homeless woman stole my car/home), went in disguise to a highly dangerous place to get photos for a media company (that's me in my disguise on the featured image you clicked to open this article), and a band called Raw and Order released a thrash metal song about me. My name is Artie Duncanson, and I'm a cofounder of Viglo.
I used to hate the world and everyone in it until I made serious philosophical changes in my life and I completely reinvented myself. Now I'm striving to bring great value to this world that I love by creating a successful business... in this case, Viglo. I'm still working on my own Spanish, and so I'll not only be an owner, but I'll be one of Viglo's everyday students.
If you read the post about my first four disasterous attempts at Viglo, you might have asked yourself, "Where is Viglo getting the money to keep persevering?" Viglo has always been self funded by the paychecks I earn as a deckhand working on boats. We generally work 14-17 hour days, and I do this 7 days per week, with only a day or two off per month, if that. Despite long hours, the job isn't difficult, and I make free time to work on Viglo while earning the paychecks (these words were just written while underway on the boat). I'm going to work these crazy hours until September, and then it'll be my savings that keep Viglo going until we start earning some money. (so I better get this right soon!)
Whether you're here because you're learning Spanish or the business side of things interests you, I genuinely want to say thank you for coming along on this journey. I'm so grateful to live in times where we're we can strive to do great things, fall, and still be afforded the opportunity to give it another go. And now, I gotta get back to my boat job, as you can see below.
