Going Back in Time

Hand Written Invitations

I have decided to go back in time before the computer age. Not quite to using quill and ink, but to ballpoint pen and paper.

I was listening to the YouTuber Design Theory and he mentioned how there was a study between charitable organizations, and the one that reached out for donations with handwritten letters received significantly more donations than the one that sent digital solicitations. The individuals receiving the handwritten letters appreciated the extra effort that went into those letters, and felt more compelled to reciprocate the effort (in this case, by donating money). I can use this technique to increase my chances of getting a response back from the schools I wish to start a collaboration with (see this post for more information on that).

As of now, I am a completely unknown entity, and I deleted all my prior posts on social media, since this version of Viglo is completely different than previous ones. So these schools who receive my email will have no reason to trust me or my commitment to Viglo, and limited information to verify the validity of my company. But it'll certainly be harder to ignore a letter that was handwritten and then delivered to the school. I'll need every advantage I can get to earn an audience with these schools, and so it's time to revert back to what feels like an ancient time to do so.

UPDATES OCTOBER 26, 2023
I spent the day compiling a list of schools to bring the letters to, and I noticed something that bummed me out big time. All but one school (of the ten I've listed so far) have online classes too. When I started looking into this idea, the schools I was looking at (which were not located in the local Buenos Aires area, where I'm currently living) did not have an online presence. However, I'm learning that these schools that are known for their in person classes do include an online option. So this puts me in direct competition with these schools.

However, I haven't found any information on how much of the revenues of these schools depend on the online classes. It might be possible that these schools might find it worthwhile to still let Viglo have an audience with them since they might make more money from a graduating class if Viglo pays to present to the students, than if they try to convince the students to do the schools online courses. So I am still going to approach these schools either way. Who knows what will happen? Maybe their online services are not so popular, and they'd rather have Viglo's money than continue with their online services.

This then begs the question if these students are worth it... if they don't want to continue with the online classes offered by the school, does this mean they are opposed to online classes, and thus wouldn't want to use Viglo either? We are going to find out soon.

UPDATE DECEMBER 20, 2023
Three or four days ago I saw a post in a Facebook group where some guy suggested that someone try the Manifold Spanish school, here in Buenos Aires, to improve his Spanish. I looked up the school, and didn't see any websites about the school, but I did find another Facebook page about it. There was very little information on the page, however, the pictures showed that it taught in-class lessons, and there was no mention of online classes... two big positives for me. Then I saw that the Facebook page only had 8 likes, so it's definitely a small school, possibly even brand new. And upon further investigation, the guy who posted the comment about the school is actually the founder of it, telling me the school still is active, despite very little information to convince me otherwise.

I immediately wrote a handwritten letter to the owner, and the next day delivered it to the secretary of the school. She told me he was in his office and that I could wait to talk to him. I wanted to say "yes", but I told her I was just here to deliver the letter because I really wanted to get a response from someone who was compelled to respond to me based on my letter (unlike the previous woman who happened to be in the room when I delivered the letter, and therefore responded because I was already there, face to face with her). This individual who received my letter two days ago contacted me yesterday, expressing interest in meeting face to face, and the only information that he had to go by was the content of my letter. During our scheduled meeting in about 7 hours, I am going to ask what was in my letter that made him interested in seeing me. His feedback will help me make changes in the way that I write the letters, as I will emphasize more the parts that compelled him to contact me.

As I said, I have a face to face meeting with him today, and I'm excited to share how it goes when I get back from our meeting.
